And now for something completely different

Post  Jessyka on Mon Aug 13, 2012 11:43 am

So, right now it seems the Alabaster is a little stuck in terms of storyline and where to go with it.
I've been doing a lot of thinking and I think, perhaps, it's time to start a completely new RP.
Not to worry, Alabaster isn't closing, it's simply moving to the back burner where it will stay until people have regained an interest in it. Because we are on a retro and can build as many rooms as we like, opening a new rp shouldn't be a problem, however we have to come up and an idea for one.

So, for those of you who are interested, please give me some feedback on the following ideas for new role-plays. These are merely suggestions. I'd like to keep some elemental of fantasy or supernatural in this new role-play because hey, mythicals are fun characters. I do want to do something that hasn't been done before or hasn't been done often. Here are a few ideas that have been brought up:

1. A Steampunk/Victorian themed rp.
2. A 1920s rp set in either America or Europe.
3. A futuristic, nuclear fall-out style rp. This would probably be more mutant related than mythical.

Again, these are only ideas. If you have any other ideas for Alabaster, you may also post them here.
Right now I want to get a role-play going that will attract people to it, so that way we might have a populated rp once again.

Thanks guys!
PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

I personally think that the America 1920 mythical creature mash up would be a great idea. It's original and opens up all sorts of opportunities for things like, personal story lines, rooms, and just general interesting scenes.

Futuristic fall-out rps are over-done. No thanks to that.

I don't think I have ever seen a roleplay set in the 1920s or 30s. Really cool time period and a lot you can do with it. I really like that idea.

Victorian Steampunk has been done a lot lately but not too much. It could be fun but I dont think that and mythicals would mix very well

I have a fetish for Victorian costumes and scenarios, but the 20/30's sound fun

A Victorian roleplay or a1920's-1930's roleplay would be fabulous! It would make for interesting scenes and characters.

A fallout 1920s era mash up. I personally would like to see an older style of survival. No Humvee or tanks; Just the good ol' American double barrel or the Le Enfeild my friends, true survival! I also think a regular 1920s role play would be nice too... But I do love my fallout role plays and I think we have the talent in this community to make it fun.

I've never done fallout in my life and tbh I don't know anything about it.

I reallllyyyy like the 1920's idea in America, with illegal alcohol, gangsters and flappers. Would be good for characters and such. You don't see many rps like that.

1920s, I can agree with her. I'll do 1920s, 1920s fallout was just me dreaming.

I like the 20s, they leave it open to some sharp dressers and smart customers coming into scenes.
On the other hand Steampunk may be among the greatest inventions of all time. As in a thing of beauty which I love. So, a little conflicted.

Has anyone seen the new Batman? I think the idea of having a Gotham city ruled by a militia, but everyone is given the option to do as they please (except leave the island, revolt against Bane, etc.) so there's crime and violence, plus psychos on the street. How about a super hero/rebellion type role play, similar to that one?

So, after talking to people and getting a feel for what you all wanted it has been decided that the new role-play will be:
The Roaring 20s: 1920s in Paris.

Unfortunately, I don't think mythical is going to work out so well with this. I'm open to doing something involving a restricted group of mild mythicals (simple powers, not physically aging, etc.), but if you guys are willing to let go and be humans for a little bit (Remember; Alabaster will still be here for anyone who wants to scene there), then I'm just going to say it's non-myth.

For those of you who aren't familiar on the era, here's a little bit of background information and a few good links you can look at to get a feel for it.While the rest of the rp and rooms are under construction, you'll be able to get going on biographies.

---PARIS IN THE 1920S: A CRASH COURSE---

-World War I had ended only two years ago (1918) and people were still struggling to become accustomed to life after it. Many soldiers [especially Americans] never left European cities [like Paris] once the war ended and chose to spend their lives there.

-Many AMERICANS were leaving the US because of Prohibition (the ban on alcohol that had been put in place at the time) and moving to Europe. Among the war veterans, writers and artists were the most popular groups to be found away from their countries of origin.

-People REALLY liked to party. Life in the 1920s was all about letting go and seeking for distraction from reality; people turned to alcohol, dance clubs, and spending money on expensive clothing and material possessions [like cars].

-People were very into personal freedom -- especially women; the 1920s is known as the age of the flapper and it was not uncommon to see a woman with short hair and skirts in a bar, smoking [something that would have previously horrified people].

-The birth of movies; Paris was a HUGE place for the emerging cinema scene. Many actors and actresses roamed the streets in search of a chance to be filmed. The 1920s is known as the time where the first movie stars came into existence.

If any of you have ever read anything but Ernest Hemmingway, don't bother with the links -- you're all set.

And, I present to you:

Make your accounts and get going on bios.

Yeah, I've seen it and I liked it. I'd volunteer to be a bad guy too, because they have all the fun.
